Greenwell went from Somerset to Poynton Collieries in Cheshire in 1863.
Previous to that in 1856 he undertook a study of the Poynton Collieries for
Lord Vernon and made recommendations as to their future development.
Greenwell's detailed reports on the Poynton Collieries survive for long
periods from the 1860's until his retirement in the 1880's when his son took
over as Colliery agent and engineer. His grandson followed after until the
closure of the collieries in 1935.
Details of Greenwell's time at Poynton can be found by following the links
in the URL below. The reports are held at the Cheshire Record Office,
reference DVE.
