I don't think I said they were the same and didn't mean to imply
they were.
Both cave and mining archaeology are however
- important
- vulnerable
- easily removed
(the reason most cave archaeology is still buried is that the accessible
stuff has already been removed - often along with formation and other
minerals)
- need preservation/recording etc
I agree fully with Martins comments about the need for better preservation
(inc taping) and education.
This debate started regarding the role of NAMHO and it is good to see a
positive approach being taken by this organisation. Hopefully this will
help avoid the problems it appears France has had.
