Dear Woodrow,
How right you are. The Russell Society meet at Bwlchglas Mine nearly every
year for a look around, and they always treat the mine very carefully and
with respect. I would be the first to grumble and say otherwise if this were
not the case. Of course there have been those who have misused it and simply
ravaged it with only personal benefit in mind. Yes, I dug some really good
specimens of Pyromorphite out in the mid-70's (indeed still have some) - like
the specimen in the book produced by the NMW - an excellent publication if
members have not seen it? As you say, and as I said in mine to the list,
there is indeed a very fine line...... oh dear, I really really don't want
to get involved in this!!!
You were also right in saying about suspicion. Territorial I think might be a
better word! However, not treating the matter lightly in any way, respecting
anywhere one goes is very important - the latter is a trait sadly fast
diminishing these 'enlightened' days (manners seem to be going the same way
as well).
Thankyou for your balanced comments.
Regards, Bernard
