As a past Chairman and Secretary of NAMHO, I too would like to add my thanks
for the often unremarked (and therefore unthanked) efforts of Ivor, Wes and
Rob. Ivor has taken an active part from the birth of NAMHO in 1979, but Rob
and Wes have also been active since the 1980s. Between them, they have
spent many hours and put in lots of miles on our behalf.
Not being able to get to the AGM, I sincerely hope that Mike has not stood
for office on the agenda (as proposed by himself on this list before
Christmas) that mining history should become a subservient part of the
caving world. For many of us (who also enjoy close contacts with many
cavers) that idea is anathema.
I was also intrigued by Mike's intention that "executive meetings are [to
be] held in Society areas at least once every 18 months". There's nothing
wrong with the sentiment, but how will it be achieved on four meetings per
year?
Mike Gill,
President of the Northern Mine Research Society.
