A couple of years ago, I purchased a large batch of Spanish historic mining
share certificates, amongst which were multiple copies of certificates for
two mines, La Argentifera de Cordoba and Minas de Alcaracejos, both
registered in Bilbao, the first in 1916, the latter in 1898.
In common with the ornate style of many Spanish share certificates of all
types, both feature very finely engraved vignettes, but in this case the
principal vignette on both certificates is most unusual - a Cornish Engine
House. That on the 1898 cerificate is particularly fine and very detailed.
These are the only mining share certificates, of any nationality, that I
have, so far, come across which feature Engine Houses.
However, I know absolutely nothing about either of these mines, neither
their history, including whether or nor Cornish Engine Houses, and Cornish
engines, were actually erected at either site, nor even their location.
Would anybody on the list know anything about either of these mines? I would
be very grateful for any information.
Many thanks,
John Morris,
