Just to elucidate - can't 'dig' as lanes are public rights of way or
bridleways with ownerships lost in history.
Filled in areas are likely to be water erosion prior to 19th century and
mine waste/general rubble during 19th/20th centuries. Very wet being in
North Devon.
Would anticipate there being at least 12m of rubble above bedrock. Area
known for silver/lead mining.
