I carried out a research project which evaluated a model of peer review in
midwifery. The study took place in three Scottish hospitals and the report
may be of interest it's available from the Royal College of Midwives

Subject: peer support in midwifery
Dear list members
I wonder if anyone knows of any current projects aimed at providing peer
support to midwives, and any research projects that have
evaluated/investigated these projects in any way?
Midwives in Swansea are developing a programme of peer support groups, and I
am eager to develop a piece of research
( probably action research) that will run alongside the programme and
explore how it develops. This links nicely with my PhD study which has
explored the emotional work of midwives and has identified the need for
improved support as a key issue.
I would welcome any ideas, thoughts or suggestions!
