The following article recently published on hypoglycaemia in normal
breastfed infants may help:
Diwakar K & Sasidhar M 2002 Plasma glucose levels in term
infants who are appropriate size for gestation and exclusively
breastfed. Archives of Disease in Childhood Fetal and Neonatal
edition Vol 87 pp F46 - 48.
The report relates to a longitudinal study carried out on 200 infants
with capillary blood glucose testing at 3, 6, 24 and 72 hours of age.
The authors conclude that 'Biochemical thresholds for
hypoglycaemia do not seem to be of practical importance in
asymptomatic, normal, term, breast fed infants.'
