I also agree with Belinda on this one. The medicalisation of childbirth
continues unchecked.

Subject: Routine use of antenatal Anti- D
Dear All
I was very saddened and disappointed to see that the NICE Guideline on the
Routine Use of Anti-D in the Antenatal period was published on Friday 10th
May (see NICE website).
Though all the relevant people were contacted for comments, the list of
submissions does not include identification of those who were 'opposed' to
its 'routine' use for all women.
It seems bizarre that such an enormous amount of money will be released by
the DoH for such a miniscule number of cases who are affected by not being
given Anti-D. Most who need it are already getting it anyway.
Despite the section that acknowledges a woman's decision to not accept Anti
D should be respected (4.3.7.), it will be very hard for women to go against
the tide of professional opinion!
It is just one more nail in the coffin for a woman's right to choose when
what we are really saying is that the professionals know best!
What are people's thoughts on this?
Best wishes
Belinda
