Subject: Normality in childbirth
Dear Jenny,
I quite agree with your sentiments about normality in childbirth. My
particular area of interest is in third stage practice and I feel quite
strongly that the interventionist medicalised influence on this aspect
of
labour has made it very difficult for midwives to embrace normality. We
have to relearn how to manage without intervention when caring for women
at
low risk and also re-skill in detecting when things may go wrong. Not
at
easy task. If you are looking for further info on recapturing normality
for
the third stage, have a look at enclosed article.

Journal of Midwifery 9(1): 7-12.
