Christine's message provides some evidence for not using a model developed
to handle pathology. One of our greatest challenges as midwives is
deciding what works for normalcy. Because we are part of the health care
(read disease focused) system, we need to be very wise in the way we accept
the prevailing models of that system. Whether it is language, procedures
or processes, what is appropriate for disease diagnosis and treatment may
gravely dis-serve women who are not part of that reality. Pat
