WELLCOME UNIT FOR THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE
WELLCOME PhD STUDENTSHIP IN HISTORY OF MEDICINE
The Unit is collaborating with the THACKRAY MUSEUM, LEEDS,
to mount a PhD research project on the
DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES,
drawing on the strengths of the Thackray collections in
surgical instruments, prostheses, and the medical supply trades.
The studentship is funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Thackray Museum
at the usual Wellcome rates, beginning at £13,612 pa ( tax free), plus
fees and an allowance for expenses and travel.
Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant science, social
science or history; plus postgraduate training, and preferably a Masters, in
history of medicine or a related field.
Candidates should send a cv (inc the names of three referees) and a letter
outlining their relevant interests, training and career plans.
Suitable applicants will be interviewed, and the successful candidate will
develop a full proposal with the Unit and the Museum, for submission to the
Wellcome Trust
