The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science invites applications from outstanding scholars for a
post-doctoral fellowship
in the 'Experimental History of Science' Independent Research Group (directed by H. Otto Sibum). The position will run for one calendar year starting as soon as possible (but no later than January 1st, 2003) and may be extended for another year. The Research Group investigates the texture of change in the physical sciences at two major cultural transformation periods, c. 1800 and c. 1900. Applicants' research projects should focus on one or more of the following topics:
-Knowledge traditions and science
-Non-literary forms of knowledge transfer
-The practices and meanings of experiment (especially in Germany c. 1800)
-The changing uses of theory in physics
Applicants must have been awarded a Ph.D in History, History of Science or History of Technology no earlier than 1997 and no later than September 2002.
The stipend for applicants from abroad is 1.841 Euro per month. Women are encouraged to apply. Qualifications being equal, precedence will be given to candidates with disabilities.
