Some of you may have seen titles in the series of 'small books' on
revolutions in science coming out from Icon, which I am having fun editing.
If not, you can find details at
http://www.iconbooks.co.uk/revsci.cfm
The latest is Patricia Fara's rather fine An Entertainment for Angels:
Electricity in the Enlightenment.
The series now seems to be a going concern. There should be 16 titles by
end 2003, and there is every prospect of continuing with 6 a year thereafter.
With that in view, I would like to expand the pool of potential authors.
One motive for the series is that, as popular science delves deeper into
history, some of the books should be written by trained historians. So if
anyone has an unrequited urge to blend story-telling with scholarship, and
thinks they might like to propose a title for the series this year/next
year/sometime, please feel free to get in touch.
Two provisos. Please take a look at one or two of the existing titles
first, and think whether your idea fits. (That is, don't ask me about your
projected 180,000 word biography). And, while I am not daft enough to
expect to control cyberspace, I'd be grateful if people would restrain
themselves from re-posting this message to other lists. On the other hand,
if there are individuals you know who are off-list, do pass it on.
Thanks
Jon Turney
