LATE AVAILABILITY
This Wellcome Trust - Thackray Medical Museum funded studentship, which was
advertised earlier in the summer, has become available once again. Full
details are available at http://www.chstm.man.ac.uk/funding.htm
The Manchester Wellcome Unit is collaborating with the Thackray Medical
Museum, Leeds, to mount a PhD research project on the Development of
Medical Technologies, drawing mainly but not exclusively on the strengths
of the Thackray collections in surgical instruments, prostheses, and the
medical supply trades.
The studentship is funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Thackray Museum at
the usual Wellcome Trust rates, beginning at £13,612 pa (tax free), plus
fees and an allowance for expenses and travel.
Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant science, social
science or history; plus postgraduate training, and preferably a Masters,
in history of medicine or a related field. Candidates should send a cv (inc
the names of three referees) and a letter outlining their interests,
training and career plans. Suitable applicants will be interviewed, and the
successful candidate will develop a full proposal with the Unit and the
Museum, for submission to the Wellcome Trust. Closing date for
applications: 16 August 2002. We hope to run an accelerated appointment
process so that the successful candidate can start at the end of September
2002.
