Lecturer
Media and Communications Program
The Position: You will be expected to teach, conduct research and
perform administrative duties. You must be a proven and successful
teacher at all levels, including lecturing to first year classes and
have a strong record of research. Applications in all areas of media and
communications are encouraged and especially those with research
expertise in one or more of the following: international communications;
sociology of journalism; Australian and Asian media; public relations
and media sources; regulation, policy and law; media and communications
methods.
The Person: You will have or be near completion of a PhD in Media and
Communications or related discipline and will have demonstrated research
performance at a high level. You will have good communication skills
consistent with teaching excellence and have administrative capability.
The Benefits: Salary $54,249 - $64,420 p.a. (Lecturer, Level B) plus
employer superannuation contributions of 17 percent.

Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor
Media and Communications Program
The Position: You will have responsibility for teaching and developing
subjects in the Program's expanding undergraduate and postgraduate
program. You will contribute to the research profile of the Program;
supervise honours and postgraduate students; undertake some
administrative tasks and be involved in the Program's development. At
Level D, you will be expected to provide leadership in teaching,
research and other activities. Applicants should indicate the level at
which they are applying and address the selection criteria for the
relevant level.
The Person: You will have a PhD and an established research profile
within the field of media and communications. You will be an experienced
and enthusiastic teacher and committed researcher with a strong
publication record. Applications are sought from those with research
expertise in any area of media and communications and especially those
with developed research expertise in one or more of the following:
international communications; sociology of journalism; Australian and
Asian media; public relations and media sources; regulation, policy and
law; media and communications methods. You will be familiar with
cross-cultural approaches to teaching and work well as part of a team.
At Level C, you will have experience with teaching at undergraduate
level and postgraduate supervision and have an appropriate publication
record with a capacity to attract external research funding (including
ARC grants). You will demonstrate innovative development of teaching in
an Australian and/or International area and academic leadership
qualities. At Level D, you will have significant international research
and publication in media and communications, demonstrated capacity to
secure research funding and grants and demonstrated contribution to
media and communications pedagogy as well as curriculum design and
development. You will have demonstrated excellence in teaching,
postgraduate supervision and performance of high level administrative
functions.
The Benefits: Salary will depend on qualifications and experience and
will be in the following ranges: $66,455 - $76,627 (Senior Lecturer,
Level C) or $80,017 - $88,155 (Associate Professor, Level D).
Plus employer superannuation contributions of 17 percent.
Employment Type: This is a full-time (continuing) position available 1
February 2003.
