I am familiar with Jakob Nielsen's suggestion that 'As a rule of thumb,
the annual maintenance budget for a website should be about the same
as the initial cost of building the site, with 50 percent as an absolute
minimum.'
As pat of our ICT strategy review at Tyne and Wear Museums I am
wondering whether anyone working in museums has a feel as to whether
this is accurate for museums websites or whether any other observations
on the resources needed to maintain websites - I am thinking here of the
content creation management as well as technical maintenance.
