Accessing the BIDS IBSS Service using the Z39.50 protocol
---------------------------------------------------------
Earlier this year we relocated the BIDS IBSS service to a new Sun-based
computer system.
For various technical reasons, one component of the service was left
running on the old system, namely the Z39.50 access route.
As of today, anyone using Z39.50 (for example because you are using
personal bibliographic database software packages such as EndNote) will
be communicating with the 'new' BIDS IBSS system.
We have updated the Connection Guide Help text - see
http://www.bids.ac.uk/info/ibss_z3950.htm
The file contains a link to an updated connection file for EndNote:
http://www.bids.ac.uk/info/ibss_z3950/bids-ibss.enz
Note that this connection file uses the SUTRS record format which we are
recommending for this service. We have tested the system on both the
latest version of EndNote (v6) and older versions (v5, v3.1). We
believe that both the old and the new connection files should work with
these versions of EndNote, but if you have any problems, please try
updating your connection file.
Please contact our Helpdesk <[log in to unmask]> if you have any problems.
Regards,
Terry
