Having visited the Nablus Municipal Library in April, 2000, where I was
impressed by its manuscript collection and its staff but distressed by
physical conditions that included a lack of fire suppression equipment, I
am greatly pleased to have received a message from Ayman Al-Shaka'a,
International Relations Officer of Nablus Municipality, stating that the
Municipal Library was not touched during the recent invasion. For now, at
least, a cultural treasure has been spared
