The Private Papers Archives
Applications are invited for the post of Archivist in charge of the Middle East Centre’s Private Papers Archives and Photographic Collection. Duties will include
the everyday management of the collection and reader services. The successful applicant will be a fully qualified archivist with knowledge of IT technology as
applied to archive administration. Knowledge of the modern history of the Middle East would be desirable.
The collection now contains the papers of about 300 individuals or organisations, covering the period from 1800 to the present day. Its particular strength is in
coverage of Palestine during the period of the British Mandate. In addition to the Private Papers collection there is a Photographic Archive of over 60,000 images
covering all areas of the Middle East from the 1850s to the 1960s.
The appointment is for two years in the first instance on the academic-related Senior Librarian payscale [£17,451 – 19,486]. The deadline for applications is 8
