INDEX ISLAMICUS
We are very pleased to announce that INDEX ISLAMICUS, the major bibliography of
books, articles and reviews on all aspects of the Muslim world, is now
published by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden. They have acquired from the
previous publishers, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (formerly Bowker), the
publishing rights to both the print and electronic versions. As Editors, we
have encouraged and very much welcome the transfer to this famous European
scholarly publisher, well established in the field of Islamic studies. We look
forward to the continued development of this major bibliographical research
tool, and its future partnership with the Encyclopaedia of Islam and other
major Brill reference works in our field.
Existing subscriptions entered with Bowker/CSA will of course be fully honoured
by Brill. Our plans for 2002 are to produce:-
1. Index Islamicus 2000: the usual printed annual volume covering publications
of that year. This should appear in the summer.
2. A 4th updated edition of Index Islamicus on CD-ROM, including the whole
database 1906-2000. This should also be available in the summer of this year.
3. Three paper issues giving more up-to-date information on publications of
2001 and 2002.
Plans are also being made for a future online version of Index Islamicus, and
for the development of new updating and current awareness services, as well
as further printed volumes to fill past gaps in coverage. Advice and opinions
concerning these will be gratefully received.
Happy New Year to all our readers.
