MA/MSc in Library and Information Studies
City University will be starting this new course in October 2002. A
complement to the existing Masters courses in Information Science, and in
specialised areas of information management, it is aimed those wanting to
enter a career in any sector of library/information work, or to develop an
established career.
It may be of particular interest to anyone working in, or wanting to work
in, healthcare library/information services. This is a particular interest
and strength of the City department. Modules offered on the course
include: Health Sciences Information; Medicines Information; and Analysing
and Evaluating Health Information. Students may also opt to take some of
the specialised topics from the MSc in Pharmaceutical Information
Management.
The focus is on developing the knowledge, skills and perspectives for
continuing professional development, and reflective professional practice.
Emphasis is placed on: dealing the complexities of the evolution of LIS in
a digital environment; critical integration and analysis of information
and viewpoints; application of research findings, and the carrying out of
research and evaluation projects. There is a strong international
perspective, with opportunity to study outside the UK during the course.
Full-time and part-time routes are available, and some modules are
available by e-learning. Part-time study may involve day release (one day
per week) or a combination of short courses and e-learning.
