Strathclyde University currently has a four-concurrent-user web access to
the British Pharmacopoeia as part of its subscription to the Print + CD-ROM
package from The Stationery Office, which comfortably meets our needs.
However, the Library is phasing out its CD-ROM server over the summer, and
has asked TSO about increasing its concurrent usage for the web version.
The Library has just been informed by TSO that there will be a new "academic
model" for HE renewals for web access, based on the "number of users" in the
institution. Whilst we are unclear whether this refers to the number of
pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences staff & students or the number of
FTEs in the institution (i.e. JISC banding), the result either way is an
incredible price increase which is likely to be unsustainable for this
institution.
Has anyone else experience with web access to BP or the price increase
proposed by TSO? I welcome all suggestions, and will summarise any
discussion for the lists.
