Dear colleagues
NeLH are delighted to announce that from today all users in England are now
able to freely access both The Cochrane Library and Clinical Evidence via
our site. Users accessing NeLH from outside nhsnet no longer need an athens
password to use these resources.
This is a further step towards providing equality of information. The
Cochrane Library (www.nelh.nhs.uk/cochrane.asp) and Clinical Evidence
(www.nelh.nhs.uk/clinical_evidence.asp offer patients more in-depth
information that 'expert patients' or those who want to view the same
information as their own doctor would find useful. The resources do use
medical terminology however, and therefore do not replace the need for
patient - oriented resources such as the NHS Direct site.
"Making this information widely available is an important step along the
road to true doctor/patient partnership. People will have exactly the same
information as the health professionals so can be involved equally as a
patient," said Muir Gray, Director of the NeLH.
