Dear colleagues, I would like to clarify John Rule's comment about CRD
support for systematic review searching. The enquirer was doing a
Cochrane review and I replied to them directly suggesting that their
support would come from the Trials Search Coordinator of their Cochrane
Review Group and possibly also from Carol Lefebvre at the UK Cochrane
centre. This is standard advice that we give to people undertaking
Cochrane reviews as Cochrane Review Groups have some funded support to
help with search development.
In terms of CRD supporting non-Cochrane systematic reviews of the
effectiveness of interventions - we often help enquirers with free
advice on places/resources to search, and search strategy hints and
advice. We often 'proofread' strategies for people who have asked for
advice. In some cases we will undertake searches on behalf of people
who do not have access to specific databases. However, in those latter
cases we do have to make a charge for time and resources.
I hope this clarifies somewhat what we do, but if anyone would like to
learn more about what we offer please feel free to get in touch with me
or the CRD enquiry desk ([log in to unmask] tel: 01904-433707).
