Thanks Jim for alerting colleagues.
RLG/WDC Groups are discussing the paper and preparing a response. Within
the DoH I will reinforce messages in a contribution as NHS Library Adviser.
I have alerted chairs of HLG and Helicon as well as lead officers at Cilip
that this consultation is out.
One thing to consider is that too many unco-ordinated responses can give
the impression of an unco-ordinated service and it would be useful to
consider how NHS libraries present a united front on this. I will ask Sally
Hernando as current RLG chair if she would like to receive comments from a
wider range of individuals and if so to communicate via lis-medical.

Dear colleagues,
I recently had my attention drawn to the following report, which I have
not seen mentioned on these lists yet.
Consultation on the Review of NHS Education and Training Funding and the
Review of Contract Benchmarking for NHS Funded Education and Training
The full text of the consultation document is available in pdf from the
following website.
http://www.doh.gov.uk/fundingconsultation/
<http://www.doh.gov.uk/fundingconsultation/>
Its MEGA important that ALL NHS Librarians read it, since it discusses the
future funding mechanisms for what are currently MADEL, SIFT and NMET -
i.e.
the 3 main NHS Library funding streams. You'll note the lack of reference
to
Libraries and the apparent lack of library input. It talks a lot about the
merging of the 3 streams and the need for ALL NHS staff to have access to
funds for training, but does not mention additional money (surprise,
surprise!)
It's a consultation document - PLEASE read it and comment as requested.
Regards
Jim
