Our basement stack has been temporarily closed for emergency work on some
water pipes that, worryingly, run across the ceiling above the mobile
shelves. Our summer students are currently earning their money emptying
the shelves underneath the affected area and when they have finished this
and sheeted over the next banks of shelving, the whole area will be closed
to us.
So what? Well, sadly until the beginning of next week (which means that we
hope it will be Monday but aren't sure enough to say so) we will be unable
to supply any photocopies of items with a Basement locadtion (B:nnn in our
catalogue) or provide loans of any books in our closed access reserve
stock. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this: as you sit
their fuming about the delay, console yourselve with the thought of me and
the other library staff who suffer from a fretful nature spending our
weekends circling the working areas with umbrellas seeking to deflect any
unwanted gushing back into the cleared area.
And if you believe that, please get in touch with me immediately because I
have these dot-com shares for sale that are going to go through the roof
any second. Last few only.
