These were the responses received to the query I put out. I have also
spoken to Linda Simpson of the Walton Library of Newcastle University who
reports successful implementation of a site licence for EndNote. But I had
no information from hospitals.

I went on UKOLUG's bib software course last year. There we were told that
the one or two universities in the UK who had implemented web publishing
using RefMan or EndNote hadn't managed to get their systems working
properly. Ask yourself- is it worth it:-))?
There are consultancies that advise on bib software I think if you were
determined to pursue! probably cost you £££ though.
My library colleagues locally who are publishing databases are tending to
use DBTextWorks Web publisher, which is expensive but reliable. DBTextWorks,
of course, isn't a bibliographic management system as such, but a very
flexible RDBMS + Text system.
------------------------------------------
Endnote reference management software can be networked, but you will not
have true multi-user network capabilities; i.e. 2 people would not be able
to work on the same database simultaneously. If you are going to buy Endnote
buy the latest version which is Endnote 6, current price £225. If you had an
education licence it would be £175.
I know this because I went on a management software course at Manchester
University 3 weeks ago and found Endnote very user friendly, but I did
discover a bug in it !!

Original query
OK hospital librarians,
I have another question. I have been asked about whether it would be
possible to put Endnote onto a hospital intranet. Our hospital covers three
sites so that this library is not always accessible. I know that
Universities do things with reference management software, but I don't know
if any hospitals do. It is quite expensive - probably too much. Also, have
any of you loaded it onto computers in your libraries?
As ever, I would be grateful for your help.
Best wishes
