Dear all,
I spotted this in my renewals, and thought it worth drawing your attention
to. I've written to JBJS (UK) to complain. Here is an extract:
"...I have never understood why journal prices should annually increase by
8-10%, but as an experienced Librarian, have learnt that this is the case.
However, the price increases for JBJS have been way over this.
For 1999, I paid ?101.20 a modest increase on the previous year.
For 2000, I paid ?109.43, an 8% increase.
For 2001, I paid ?197.96, a staggering 80% increase!
For 2002, I paid ?221.16, a further 11% increase.
For 2003, I am quoted ?360, an unbelievable 63% increase.
As Libraries, we already pay well over the odds for institutional prices,
for which we get no additional benefit - even electronic access is NOT made
easily available to us. I'm sure you are aware that our budgets are
increasingly squeezed, and cuts in journals are inevitable - I am facing a
?3,000 cut for 2003, just to keep my journal costs within inflation..."
Regards
Jim
