Dear Veronica
i wonder if you could help us to recruit some tutors for our new health
information course by passing on this ad to anyone you think might be
interested. It would be excellent experience for health librarians who want
to develop their teaching skills.
Many thanks
Gill
Health Librarians may be interested in becoming associate lecturers (part
time tutors) on the Open University's new course, 'Knowledge, Information &
Care'
* Could you spend some of your time making all the difference to
enthusiastic adult learners?
* Could you bring ideas to life whether you're face-to-face, on-line
or on the telephone?
* Could you make distance learning more accessible?
* Do you have a degree or professional qualification, an interest in
adult learning and the ability to commit some of your time on a regular
basis each week?
If the answers are yes, then find out about becoming an associate lecturer
with the Open University.
Knowledge, information and care (K223)
This course will be presented for the first time in 2002/03 and it is
likely
that there will be vacancies throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE
The School of Health and Social Welfare offers courses and free-standing
study materials that are used extensively by individuals and by groups in
the workplace.
With the range of courses available students can work towards awards such
as
the Diploma in Heath and Social Welfare and the BA/BSc in Health and Social
Care. The school, in partnership with social work agencies, also offers a
programme leading to the Diploma in Social Work/Diploma of Higher
Education.
Presentation pattern
February to October
Course description
This new course helps health and social care professionals, and others who
have interests in the area, to develop their understanding and skills in
using information in the area of health and social care. The effective use
of information - about individual patients and clients, about services,
about communities and populations, and about the evidence base - is
increasingly important. The public's access to information is changing too,
and this presents new challenges for professionals. This course enables
students to understand and engage with the changing information
environment.
Person specification
You should have a degree or the equivalent in a relevant subject area. You
should also have an understanding and awareness of current knowledge and
information in health and/or social care in the UK, familiarity with
current
practice regarding delivery of health care and personal social services,
and
with literature, policies and research in the field. You should have
experience in information handling in an electronic environment and
preferably some experience of supporting online learning. Teaching
experience with a range of adults and experience of open
learning/correspondence tuition would be desirable as well as expertise in
informatics in health and/or social care and relatively recent practice
experience in some 'helping' context.
