This position offers an exciting opportunity for a qualified librarian with
at least 2 years experience within the NHS to develop a pilot Clinical
Librarian service to a major Primary Care Trust within Birmingham.
The role will involve:
* Establishing and promoting the service within the selected pilot
Primary Care Practices
* Supporting clinicians to practice Evidence Based Healthcare
* Developing and Internet based clinical questions database
* Developing a local Primary Care Virtual Branch Library
* Evaluation of the project.
In all aspects of the role the post holder will work closely with the
Project Steering Group.
The position requires a flexible, highly organised person with excellent
communication skills, You will need to be self motivated, able to use your
own initiative and prioritise your workload.

Responsible to: University Hospital Birmingham Trust Library Manager
Project Manager: WMCWDC Network Co-ordinator
Liaise with: Project Group, Trust Librarians, HSMC Librarian,
Primary Care Clinical Governance Leads, identified contact within each pilot
practice
Job Summary:
The Primary Care Clinical Librarian will be responsible for developing a
Clinical Librarian service for designated pilot Primary Care Practices in
Birmingham and creating a pilot clinical questions database. The pilot will
be carried out with practices from the Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary
Care Trust but the database will be available to all health care staff
across Birmingham and Solihull. To work with the clinicians and clinical
teams to highlight opportunities for applying information and evidence based
practice
The post holder will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Library but
will work under the direction of a Project Manager and Project Group.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To work with the project group and pilot practices to establish and
promote a Clinical Librarian Services
To establish and identify the evidence based
information requirements of the clinicians in the practice
To work with the clinicians and clinical
teams to highlight opportunities for applying information and evidence based
practice
2. Support Clinicians to define clinical questions and to collect the
evidence to support practice.
To work with pilot group to help identify
and define the clinical question and appraise information
Work with the clinicians to identify the
most appropriate information resources available across Birmingham and
Solihull
Work with the clinicians to search and find
information on best practice
Appraise, summarise and package the search
results
3. To work in co-operation with the primary care trainers to carry out
training sessions for the pilot groups in information retrieval
Develop and deliver appropriate training
programmes to support clinicians in defining clinical questions, searching
for and appraising information.
4. Work with the project group to develop an Internet based clinical
questions database.
Assist with formatting and structuring the
software for the Clinical Questions Database
Compile the database with the search results
5. Evaluate the project and prepare a report on the pilot project.
Identify recommendations on how this service
can be developed beyond the pilot project.
Work with the pilot group and project group
to promote the database and report findings.
6. To work with the BaSe-library Web Site Project Group to develop the
local Primary Care Virtual Branch Library
