. . . and completely free of self-congratulatory rubbish. really.

The whole corporate BMA web site is being relaunched in new and spiffy
clothes next week and there will be an important change or two for our INST
members. Every INST member will be getting a letter/message in the next
day or two explaining these changes (and just to make that process mostly
redundant it's attached at the bottom of this message. [And sad experience
leads me to point out that the individual userID and passwords aren't
really strings of x's these are just for the mailmerge program.]

Please fire up your browser and nip over to http://web4.bma.org.uk to give
the new site the once-over. The navigation system of the library pages has
been completely revised and is now more like a product of rational thought
and less like a by-product of too much Highland Park, and there are
individual bits which are now easier to use, too. Please let us know what
you think of the changes. And particularly please let us know if you find
something that doesn't work as it should. We have had over 500 pages of
stuff to convert and we've checked and we've checked that it's all gone
over ok - but you just know there's something important in there just
waiting to cover our faces with egg (or worse if there happens to be a fan
around at the time). For once we're crying out for people to say I Told
You So, so please don't let the opportunity go begging.

Tony McSean

And now for the letter:

Dear Institutional Member,

New-look BMA library web site
Easier photocopy and book requests
Your new password

The BMA has redeveloped its website and will be changing over to the new
design on Monday, the 25th March, at around 9am. The library has also had
to redesign its pages to provide a consistent look and feel over the whole
of the BMA's website. Before it goes live, we would like to give you the
opportunity to view the new site a few days . The temporary address ,
before it goes live, is: http://web4.bma.org.uk . Once it is launched it
will move to the familiar http://www.bma.org.uk.

One of the features of the redesign is to make it easier for INSTs to
identify yourselves to us and to send us requests for photocopies and
books. You can now choose whether to upload all your photocopy requests in
one go, or to enter them them one by one. To make this possible, and to
enable us to add services specifically for INSTs in the months to come, we
have introduced a password system for the request of books & photocopies.

You can view the new site without logging in, but certain pages and
activities are only available via the new password system. To login,
simply click on the "login here" link on the home page and enter your
userid and password, as shown below:

Your userid is: xxxxx
Your password is: xxxxxxx

To change your password simply click on the "Change web password" link,
second from bottom on the main library menu.

If you have any comments, suggestions or even complaints, please let me
know by writing to BMA House or emailing me at [log in to unmask]

Yours faithfully,

Tony McSeán
BMA Librarian
