===============
* NEW HOME FOR ONLINE HEALTH CAMPAIGNS.
All but one of the internet-based health campaigns run by the
government agency Health Promotion England will be taken on by the
Communications Directorate of the Department of Health when the
agency shuts at the end of March, Future Health Bulletin has learned. All
HPE staff will also be transferred to the directorate.
The only online campaign that will not be assimilated by the DoH is
http://www.preventinghomefalls.gov.uk , a DTI-sponsored campaign
targeting older people and their carers to prevent falls in the home. The
DTI is expected to sustain the site itself in the future.
The health promotion units of the UK's three devolved regions will
continue to retain their separation from the DoH.
Cost savings were said to be the main motivation behind the closure of
HPE when news of it was uncovered by Future Health Bulletin last year
(see our November issue). "Savings will mainly be derived from
eliminating the overhead of operating a remote unit incurring rent, IT,
finance and human resources costs", a spokesperson said.
NOTE: For a case study on a sexual online health promotion project see
section four, this issue.
