In the South West, we had an excellent session for Library Managers with
Frankie Hastings, the CLA Business Development Manager, which helped to
answer many of our queries. I understand that Frankie is going to pursue
similar opportunities across the country - these sessions will be well worth
attending if you get the chance.
The SW Library Managers seemed to conclude that the licence would make
copying in the NHS much simpler, especially since no signature will be
required between NHS organisations, along with no requirement to keep
copyright declarations for 6 years and one day. There is also no
requirement to charge the recipient, though libraries may still wish to
charge to cover their costs.
The above does not apply to copying done under library privilege, e.g.
providing an interlibrary loan to an HE library - only to copying done
within the NHS.
I think Veronica Fraser is to be congratulated on the successful outcome of
these negotiations.
