Health Information United, HLG Conference 2002, Heriot Watt University
15 - 17 July, 2002
This year's conference will be held in the Edinburgh Conference centre
at Heriot Watt. The programme will cover two and a half days,
beginning at 10am on Monday 15th July so delegates will need to arrive
on Sunday 14th. Accommodation for Sunday night and breakfast on Monday
is however included in the very reasonable (we think) price of the
Conference.
There will be 32 papers presented at the conference : a mixture of
keynotes,
plenary, parallel sessions and workshops
There will be three keynote presentations:
*Prof Maggie Pearson (Director of Education & Training, DoH,) on
partnerships with education and training
*Veronica Fraser, Mark Watson et al on integrating knowledge services
across
health and social care.
*Sally Hernando on international collaboration between Australian and
UK
health librarians
Other speakers will include Jackie Lord from the RCN, Tony McSean
from the BMA, Bruce Madge from the BL and Andrew Booth from SCHARR.
There will be a packed programme with a mixture of papers on
collaborative projects between:
* NHS/Higher Education
* Health and social care,
* Health and public libraries
* Collection management,
* Patient information
* the role and activities of professional organisations
* Nursing, and
* Primary Care
Titles include:
*Librarian would like to meet others with same interests-building a new
relationship on common ground
*Radical tactics: enhancing quality by placing a knowledge and
information service in midfield
*Web based delivery of patient information
*Cross organisational and cross sector collaboration: sharing
information, knowledge and skills
Workshops will include NeLH, Evidence Based Librarianship and HMIC.
Other highlights will include:
*The British Library's Anna Grundy on research resources in medical
history
*Presentation of the Barnard prize,
*Exhibition and exhibitors reception
*Conference dinner at the Roxburghe hotel, a five star Georgian
establishment in the heart of Edinburgh, followed by entertainment
Prices this time have not risen substantially since the last full HLG
conference back in 1998 and include an extra night's accommodation.
Earlybird registration, offering a discount of around £30 will be
available for those able to make their booking by 1 May. There are no
day rates or one night rates this time but there is a non residential
option. As a guide full registration in an ensuite room for earlybird
HLG members will be £275 plus VAT.
Note: The conference is limited to a maximum of 300 delegates, so book
early
to save money and avoid disappointment!
