It is worth noting I think that at one stage the acronym for the new
association was appearing as ChILIP, which might lend weight to Chrissy and
Christine's suggestions.

I really like Christine Reid's suggestion of pronouncing it Chilip - and it
also deals with Carol Mortimer's point. Shall we go for it?

In my mind I've been pronouncing it Chilip as the C is from CHartered.
I remember some years ago there was a suggestion to rename the Library
Association "Institute of Chartered Librarians", but there were objections
from the Fellows - because they would have been FICL and they didn't like
the sound of that.
When I was at Loughborough, a lot of the old CATs were being renamed as they
turned into universities and they had to be careful not to call that
particular one the Loughborough University of Science & Technology.
I love initials !!

Is there anyone else out there embarrassed by the new name cilip
(pronounced silip)? We have had enough problems with our image already!
