SUPPORTING YOUR CASE USING BUDGETING AND COSTING DATA
CILIP workshop, 11 February 2003, London
With organisations facing tougher competition for funding and resources, and increasing pressure to offer more for less, it is no longer sufficient to be able to present the facts and a well-reasoned argument when submitting a business case. Whether developing a new service, trying to secure additional staff or evaluating income-generating ideas, using and presenting financial information effectively can help to make an application for funding or resources successful.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING:
This workshop will equip participants with the skills and techniques needed to effectively evaluate and present financial data in order to support and present a solid proposal.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* practised the key techniques involved in appraising financial information and making a 'business case' using financial data
* discovered the processes involved in cost comparison and justifying staffing structures and budgets
* learned how to use charts and graphs to illustrate their case
* learned the skills that will be required to evaluate data and present their case effectively when back at the workplace
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Senior managers whose role includes responsibility for evaluating the quality of service delivery against the cost of delivering that quality. These senior managers are likely to contribute to service development and service planning decisions, or be seeking imminent promotion to a similar role.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Larraine Cooper
Having had a substantial career in banking which included developing training in both managerial and financial skills, Larraine set up her own consultancy in 1986. Since then she has regularly worked with staff in public, academic and health service libraries, as well as business units and direct service managers in local authorities and the health service.
FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS ATTENDEES:
"Clear explanations, good pace, and suitable time slot for practical work."
"Right level; tools for the job included."
