Issue date 25.01.2002
2002/0103
An online network that gives health librarians the extra resources they need
to support their development as 'infomediaries' is now live on the National
electronic Library for Health (NeLH).
John Hewlett, chair of the NHS Regional Librarians Group said: "NHS library
information services are an essential part of the infrastructure needed to
deliver health care services for the 21st century. Librarians are
increasingly offering services beyond the physical library and are taking on
new roles and responsibilities."
The new portal was developed as a collaborative venture between the NHS
Regional Librarians Group, the Health Libraries Group, the NHS Libraries
Advisor and the NeLH. It aims to encourage sharing of best practice on
topical issues such as evidence-based librarianship and knowledge
management.
The portal brings together useful information, such as the Events Calendar
from the BUBL Information Service and many other regional resources.
Alison Turner, Information Manager for the National electronic Library for
Health, said: "Librarians have a crucial role to play in the development of
NeLH and in turn, the NeLH is an ideal focus for NHS librarians to develop a
virtual support network."
