ELEMENTARY STATISTICS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION STAFF
(Formerly known as 'Figure it out for yourself')
21 January 2003, London
Managing library and information services effectively now demands the
ability to gather and understand statistics. This demands a degree of
numeracy from many levels of staff.
This highly practical workshop will help participants focus on this
quantitative approach. They will have the opportunity to learn about and
practice the working techniques involved in figuring out what is going on in
their service or unit.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
Through workshop activities the day will support those who have to deal with
numbers or statistics but doubt their mathematical ability to cope. It will
enable participants to start converting numbers into meaning and to become
familiar with some basic techniques, using a series of practical examples to
highlight this throughout the day.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* examined basic methods for analysing data
* an understanding of elementary quantitative techniques
* considered the use of data in management of services
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone who has to deal with numbers or statistics in the course of their
work, but who is not confident about their mathematical abilities.
WORKSHOP LEADER: KEITH TRICKEY
Keith is a part time Senior Lecturer at Liverpool Business School and
freelance trainer. Keith regards all learning/training situations as
opportunities to play with and explore ideas and techniques.
SPECIAL NOTES: Please bring a pocket calculator with you.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop was previously known as "Figure it out for
yourself", and is not suitable for anyone who has already attended that
workshop.
