I'm very aware that other document suppliers are available, and that BL
doesnt hold all published materials. However, I'm also concerned that there
are times when people request ILLs via the list which they dont think are
held here, which are actually available from BL.
I know in a perfect world BL would have one single catalogue of its 150m
items, in formats that range from sound recordings to stamps, searchable
with wonderful software which always retrieved things swiftly and precisely.
And I'm very aware that we dont have that at the moment. A new system is
being considered, but the technical and financial issues are tough.
BLPC and the other catalogues can work (click on 'catalogues' from
horizontal menu at http://www.bl.uk/). I often find things just using BLPC,
with judicious use of keywords from the title for journals (or particularly
the ISSN, if you know it, without any gaps or hyphens). Click on 'all
collections' if you dont find it in the one you are after. But sometimes I
dont find things that I know we have.
*So if you dont find something from a BLPC (or COPAC) search, it may be
worth contacting DSC to check we really dont hold it*.
We have other catalogues in-house (including old entries on card
catalogues.) Contact details: phone 01937 546060 or email
