PUBMED AND THE NLM GATEWAY
3 December 2002, London
This one-day intensive course introduces delegates to searching the National
Library of Medicine (NLM) databases using the PubMed and the NLM Gateway.
All the key NLM databases are available free over the Internet. To help with
searching the NLM has developed software for both professional searchers
and the general public, using either PubMed or the NLM Gateway.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING:
This workshop introduces participants to the software, the databases
available for searching, and the most effective search strategies. It also
gives them an opportunity to search the TOXNET -on-the-Web interface. During
the day, delegates will have the opportunity to construct their own
searches.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* Discovered which databases are available on both PubMed and the NLM
Gateway .
* Learned the features of both sets of software
* Gained an understanding of how to construct accurate, effective searches
across the whole range of NLM databases
WORKSHOP LEADER: Tony McCulloch
Tony, who is from the British Library Health Care Information Service
(HCIS), has over 15 years experience using MEDLINE as both a searcher and
indexer.
He is responsible for the indexing British journals for inclusion on the
database, and indexes many himself. HCIS is an international Medlars Centre
for the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) providing indexing, document
supply, and acting as an agent for NLM publications.
