POSITIVE APPROACHES TO NEGATIVE PERFORMANCE
CILIP workshop, 29 November 2002, London
Poor performance can have a detrimental effect on the morale and motivation
of other staff. It costs organisations money, and, if not checked, can
damage their relationships with customers.
Dealing with negative performance presents a challenge to any manager. There
are a wide range of situations that may have to be dealt with - from
coaching an individual who is under-achieving through to dealing with
challenging or subversive behaviour, and possibly dismissal.
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
This workshop will help participants deal with the 'poor performer' and
explore how to turn poor performance around, create a more acceptable
situation and deal with more extreme cases.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* explored how to set and implement clear standards of performance
* looked at strategies and sanctions for improvement
* identified different techniques for dealing with difficult behaviour
* discovered how to manage disciplinary action and the law
* developed an individual action plan
FEEDBACK FROM PAST ATTENDEES:
"Very practical, rooted in reality"
"Excellent case studies - many useful ideas and issues emerged."
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Senior library and information staff who are responsible for the work of
others.
WORKSHOP LEADER:
John Hudson, Consultant, Hudson Rivers
John is experienced in the development and delivery of management and
commercial training and in a wide range of personnel practices and leads
Hudson Rivers' work in communication and interpersonal skills.
