NeLH NEWS : November 2002 and NeLH Awareness Week

NeLH IS TWO YEARS OLD AND TO CELEBRATE WE ARE AIMING TO DOUBLE OUR USAGE!

Awareness Week (www.nelh.nhs.uk/awareness).  The primary thrust of which
is to get people share their knowledge of the library with others, either
by email or face to face. To support this there has been 40 000 posters
produced which have been inserted in NHSIA’s Inform Magazine and are
available from our Info Line (tel 08453 66 00 66).
To promote NeLH there are competitions with around £2000 of prizes
including holidays and handheld computers.
There are events across the country and Dr Muir Gray will be online on
Thursday 28th November at 1.15pm  www.ecommunity.nhs.uk

Users can now see what the library has through the new Library Tours.

To be announced through the week include
-  The emergency care teaching module
-  NeLH Webmaster page with resources showing how NeLH can be integrated
with local resources including the beta test version of the NeLH toolbar.
-  Know How on creating Integrated Care pathways
-  A register for those undertaking NeLH training so that the library can
keep them abreast of developments

PROCUREMENT NEWS
-  The OJEC for the main items of NeLH content has just reached the end of
the ‘expressions of interest’ stage.
-  The Virtual Branch Library procurement (as Specialist Libraries) has
commenced.
-  Procurement of the infrastructure of the NeLH is about to commence with
the placement of an OJEC advert.

CONTENT NEWS
-  Hitting the Headlines – in October, Hitting the Headlines covered,
amongst others, press stories on mastectomies and breast cancer, alcohol
and pregnancy, and Parkinsons Disease
-  Document of the Week - In October, Document of the Week reviewed
amongst others the National Suicide Prevention Strategy, the National
Digital Mammography archive, and the BMJ debate on what makes a good
doctor.

NEW FEATURES OF NeLH
-  Additions to Anatomy resource.   Anatomy.tv now includes Primary Hip
Arthroplasty and Sports Injuries - Foot and Ankle
-  Expanded NSF coverage.  NeLH has added comprehensive directories to the
National Service Frameworks Zone. Covering Cancer, Diabetes, Older People,
CHD and Mental Health, the directories index all the major related
documentation, supporting resources and networks, related guidelines and
care pathways and patient information.
-  New Distance Learning Pack.  The Virtual Learning Centre has a new PGEA
approved module on breast cancer produced by TRIP database.

DEVELOPMENT NEWS
-  Demonstration site for UMIR (Unified Medicines Information Resource)
project soon to be available.
-  A Care Pathways know-how resource due for launch in later Nov/early
December.
-  Recent presentations of NeLH development given to conferences in
Glasgow (Scottish XML Committee) and Belfast (NICHI).

COMMUNICATIONS
-  NeLH recorded its highest ever usage in October, registering approx.
3.5 million page requests, breaking its previous record by 600,000.  NeLH
is currently visited by 43,000 users a month.  Resources such as NeLH
Search Engine, The Cochrane Library, Clinical Evidence, NeLH Guidelines
Finder and Anatomy.TV were all used heavily
-  NeLH has 16,756 Athens registered users and has dealt with 220 feedback
queries from users in the last month

EVENTS DURING OCTOBER
-  NeLH stand at the nhs.uk conference on 29th October
-  NeLH at the NHSIA stand at the CPHVA Conference 31st October – 2nd
November
-  Sponsorship of the WDC Librarians study day on Knowledge Management
strategies (24th October)
-  Presentation on the NeLH to Consortium of Health Independent Libraries
in London -  (CHILL)
-  Presentation on TFPL “Flexible, virtual, mobile” study day (6th
November)
