A few points, tho not sure how helpful:
1. I can confirm that PubMed explodes MeSH term automatically unless you
tell it not to
eg asthma[mh:noexp] (or if you are using the MeSH browser, click the 'do not
explode' box in detailed display).
2. From the page about it
(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query/static/clinicaltable.html) there's
a link to the Haynes article the Clinical Queries are based on. PubMed
mentions they had to devise something 'approximately equivalent' in PubMed
software (which implies not exactly the same). I havent looked at the
article myself, so dont know how the searches are presented there.
3. Have you tried Webspirs technical support? If not, might be worth sending
a copy of this email to them? If they cant help re the PubMed side (tho I
would suspect the other hosts are all too aware of PubMed), they *should* at
least help you devise search strats based on the Haynes article.
