For immediate release:
"The response to our recent free book give-away was way beyond
my wildest dreams," said Roddy MacLeod, the Manager of EEVL
[ http://www.eevl.ac.uk/ ]. The number of entries was more than
double that of last years' equivalent promotion, which itself was
commended in the LA/Emerald PR & Marketing Awards 2001.
The 'free book' promotion was a unique collaboration between top
publishers, trade magazines, professional associations and the
EEVL service. It combined the marketing efforts of all concerned
to attract attention to the wealth of information about print and
electronic resources in engineering, mathematics, and computing
available through the Web. New books are now being sent to
those chosen from over 12,500 entries.
This promotion shows not only that publicly funded services like
EEVL can successfully co-operate with commercial partners, but
also that there is a special relationship between print and
electronic information. In addition, in return for a few 'click-
throughs', EEVL’s viewing public has benefited from a large number
of free books.
EEVL would like to thank all entrants, and also the following
sponsors for their support: Butterworth-Heinemann, Kluwer,
Pearson, Springer, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, Computer Bulletin,
Engineering magazine, E2 the career guide, and Mathematics
Today.
EEVL, which is based at Heriot-Watt University, is part of the JISC-
funded Resource Discovery Network (RDN).
