OCLC PICA Workshop Programme
MARC21 26th September April 2002
With libraries in ever-increasing numbers converting to MARC21-based
systems, it is essential that librarians understand this format
Description
This one day workshop aims to help libraries in the transition to MARC21.
The format for bibliographic data will be examined, and comparison to UKMARC
will be made. Issues that may be of importance in converting to MARC21 will
also be addressed. Consideration will also be given to the format for
authority data.
Areas to be covered include:
General overview of MARC21 and MARC harmonisation issues
MARC21 format for bibliographic data
Comparison with UKMARC
The workshop will combine presentation and worked examples along with a
chance for hands-on MARC21 cataloguing. By the end of the workshop
participants should feel confidant to catalogue in the MARC21 format. This
workshop will assume a familiarity with AACR2 and the concepts of MARC-based
cataloguing.
