MANAGING A DISTRIBUTED OR DIVERSE TEAM
29 April, London
According to Tom Peters, the distributed or diverse team is the template for
the future. Organisations that wish to stay competitive and respond rapidly
to changing demands will need teams that are diverse, flexible and
multi-talented.
Such teams may include groups of staff who work in different locations or at
different times, as well as groups with diverse skills and expertise such as
in a converged service, project groups, staff who telework and those who
work on contract.
These teams are well placed to meet future challenges, yet their complexity
can create problems in developing and maintaining effective teamwork.
Aspects such as establishing shared goals and direction, and developing
trust and respect, become much more difficult when working with staff from
different backgrounds and professions or those who are geographically
dispersed.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* explored the particular challenges presented by managing a diverse or
distributed team
* a framework for managing these teams including creating a sense of
belonging, balancing the needs of task and team, communication for teamwork,
keeping work on track and dealing with difficulties between team members
* exchanged ideas and approaches
* started to prepare an action plan
