[I'm writing this as JIBS User Group representative on the
Web of Science Enhancement Committee (WoSEC)]
At a recent WoSEC meeting, ISI reminded us that they have
produced some online training materials for Web of Science,
as follows:
Flash demos: http://www.isinet.com/isi/demos/webofscience/isi.swf
Tutorial: http://www.isinet.com/tutorials/webofscience/wostut04.htm
Cited Reference Searching Tutorial:
http://www.isinet.com/training/tutorials/ccrs/index.html
My personal view of these is that I would not be able to
use them in their current form to replace my face-to-face
training sessions, as they are not detailed enough or
interactive. However, ISI have expressed a willingness to
tailor their tutorials to suit our training needs.
I would like to hear your views on this:
- Have you used the current ISI training materials and/or
promoted them to your users?
- Have you developed your own in-house online training
materials for WoS?
- Would you be interested in using an online training
package for WoS if ISI were to develop it to suit our needs?
- What sort of model should such a tutorial take?
The form I have in mind is something like Firepower
http://www.mimas.ac.uk/crossfire/firepower/
with several individual modules followed by a quiz. I'm
sure there are other models, and would be grateful for
suggestions.
Many thanks for your input,
Linda
