We should remember that 'the point' might be 6000 miles away. Increasingly
there are distance learners and other off-campus students who use the same
electronic resources as those on-campus and need skills training too. Face
to face teaching is possible - a colleague has recently been in Malaysia
doing some seminars and distance learners do sometimes have on-campus
induction weeks - but is clearly not always cost-effective.
Web-based or VLE based delivery, combined with some CMC, has to be
considered for these groups.
