Since the October changes to British Library back-up procedures, I
am sure lots of Libraries are experiencing an increase in the number
of requests they now receive. However it would be a great help to
the requesting Library if they were informed, via E-mail for example,
of any delay in their request being satisfied. They could then make a
decision to either try elsewhere for item or agree to the delay in request
being satisfied. Should the latter be the case, a report could be entered
on the request stating date to chase.
It's the not knowing what has happened to request that puts pressure on
Libraries and also leads to chaser letters being automatically produced.

Jean Davies

Subject: Message from LSE Library
Dear ILL teams
The LSE Library has experienced a large increase in demand for our stock
since the change from back-up status last October. This has led to an
ongoing backlog of requests for items on inter-library loan. If you are
applying to us we would greatly appreciate it if requesting libraries could
only send chasers to us after 5 weeks. This will help us avoid any
confusion with requests that are still in progress. We will keep you
updated with any further developments.
We hope this message is helpful.
Thank you
ILL team
